The Archaeology Interdepartmental Program at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) invites applications for lecturer position to teach the course described below during the Fall 2025 quarter. The fall quarter schedule is September 22, 2025-December 12, 2025.

This appointment offers opportunities for interaction with colleagues, access to laboratory facilities, and engagement with UCLA's research infrastructure. Through the Archaeology IDP's collaboration with the UCLA Cotsen Institute of Archaeology and its location within the UCLA Fowler Museum, the Program is part of a dynamic hub for archaeological and cultural scholarship.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Archaeology and Cultural Resource Management Archaeo C120/C220

Description: The course will introduce freely available GIS tools such as Google Earth and QGIS but will primarily focus on ESRI ArcGIS Pro, the industry standard for cultural resource management and widely used in academic research. Course content will cover the history and background of spatial analysis in archaeology and CRM, georeferencing, map projections, coordinate systems, vector data analysis, remote sensing techniques, predictive modeling, and ethics in the use of spatial data. The class will be structured to ensure intensive hands-on training, equipping students with skills applicable to both academic research and professional roles in CRM, environmental studies, and urban planning.
The appointment will be at the lecturer level and will be located on campus. Duties include preparation and delivery of lectures and laboratory practical sessions.

Candidates should hold a graduate degree in anthropology or archaeology from a recognized academic institution, with at least one year of experience in archaeological practice. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous academic teaching experience both in delivering theoretical lectures and developing and supervising GIS projects.
