Our mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial, and governmental activities vital to a prosperous economy. We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.
Role Overview :
Incumbent serves as technical expert in the Engineering Section in the Permits Branch for solid and hazardous waste management, confined feeding operations, Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR), landfills, incinerators, boilers and industrial furnaces, compost, waste tire, biomass, alternative fuel, septage, and land application programs. The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of complex engineering functions. Evaluates complex engineering design and ensures appropriate design, construction, and/or installation, operation, monitoring, and maintenance methods and procedures for storage, treatment, and disposal facilities, and compliance with applicable local, state, and federal rules, regulations, and laws. The incumbent possesses broad scientific knowledge, including advanced expertise in engineering and its related disciplines, synthesizing new concepts for development and management of program objectives. New legislative mandates and new scientific standards calling for new or improved methods are independently researched and developed to redefine or to advance program objectives without precedent or existing guidelines. Assignments are often planned with the supervisor. Assignments can include implementation of new federal or state directives, agency strategic plans, and oversight of program development. Duties will frequently involve public outreach and inter-agency meetings to negotiate cooperative agreements on engineering and technical policies or the resolution of disputes. Reports to an OLQ Permits Engineering Section Chief. No engineering license is required for this position.
Salary Statement :
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours, which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
