GENERAL JOB INFORMATION

Title: FoodShare Delivery Truck Driver
Reports To: FoodShare Program Manager

Salary Range: $19.00 - $20.00 an hour

JOB SUMMARY

FoodShare Berkeley, a Trident United Way program, collaborates with community partners in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties to provide access to fresh, affordable produce to areas throughout the tri-county region that struggle with food insecurity. Our deliveries involve driving to predetermined partner sites every other Wednesday to unload and deliver fresh food boxes. We are seeking a reliable and dedicated driver for our FoodShare Program. The Delivery Truck Driver will support the FoodShare Berkeley Program Manager by loading boxes at the Berkeley Resource Connection Center and driving our box truck to various partner sites on the delivery route every other Wednesday, and occasionally every other Thursday.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safely operate a delivery truck to transport fresh food boxes to designated locations.
  • Load and unload food boxes from the truck.
  • Ensure food boxes are placed in designated areas at distribution sites.
  • Maintain accurate delivery records and logs.
  • Communicate effectively with distribution site staff and program coordinators.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and report any issues.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with inventory management and organization at the Berkeley Resource Connection Center hub.
  • Provide excellent customer service to distribution site staff and recipients.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the FoodShare Program Manager.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Previous experience in a delivery or driving role preferred.
  • Ability to operate a delivery truck safely and efficiently.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF JOB
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and drive for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions.

The FoodShare Delivery Driver must ensure that all interactions and services are delivered in an inclusive and respectful manner in line with the organization’s diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging standards.
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions with volunteers, clients, and team members, with clear and respectful communication.
  • Collaborate closely with the FoodShare Program Manager, FoodShare Coordinator, staff and volunteers to ensure successful program operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information regarding clients and volunteers, ensuring adherence to privacy standards.
  • Adapt to changing circumstances, including delivery schedule adjustments, unexpected needs, or site issues.
  • Flexibility in work hours is required
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The majority of work conducted will be conducted in the delivery box truck and at the Berkeley Resource Connection Center.
