The Role: The GlobalPayroll & Compliance Accountant will report directly to the Controller and will work closely with US and International Offices, staff, HR, as well as the Finance and Accounting team. The Global Payroll and Compliance Accountant is responsible for reviewing and ensuring US and International payrolls are processed accurately from a financial perspective and on time. This individual ensures compliance and fiduciary oversight of the center's payroll function across all regions and needs to have exceptional understanding of global payroll processes, related policies, and regulatory requirements across the Center's international regions.

This position will be based in New York, New York in a hybrid model of 3 days in the office and 2 working from home. Covid-19 Vaccination is required for all U.S.-based Center employees.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review semi-monthly US payroll processed by Human Resources.
  • Assist HR in filing state registrations related to US Payroll tax withholding.
  • Work in collaboration with HR in reviewing monthly global payrolls prepared by international payroll providers. Global payroll providers currently include ADP for Geneva office, MAZARS for Colombia office, MGK Consulting company for Kenya Office, Neteem for France, Safeguard for Bangladesh, Belgium, Germany, Nepal, Philippines, Spain, Uganda, and United Kingdom.
  • Identify and help to resolve payroll issues/discrepancies with HR and payroll providers for international and US offices.
  • Maintain confidential payroll records used to record personnel cost in Financial Edge.
  • Create, obtain approval, and submit international payments payroll funding requests.
  • Record and post US office payroll entries in Financial Edge.
  • Reconcile Principal Financials and Paylocity draw down with bank statements and payroll registers.
  • Work with HR in resolving payroll related discrepancies before journal entries for wages are posted to the GL
  • Calculate and record vacation accruals and severance pay in Financial Edge.
  • Record and post Fringe Benefits that includes Health, Dental, Life insurance and 401K in Financial Edge.
  • Prepare and record time allocation entries for the US and International offices in Financial Edge
  • Reconcile Payroll Liability Accounts to the General Ledger monthly.
  • Take the lead in setting up or revising new macros with the Controller, IT, and Accounting Manager, Global for personnel cost entries.
  • Work with the Accounting Manager, Global and the Geneva Office Manager in gathering information related to payroll for the year end reporting.
  • Assist HR in reviewing employee W-2's when asked.
  • Prepare employee payroll related schedules to be used in the preparation of form 990.
  • Work with Regional Office Leaders to ensure compliance with international governmental reporting and tax filing requirements and ensure compliance with local governmental reporting and tax filing requirements.
  • Contribute to positive working environment by providing excellent customer service to employees/internal and external stakeholders as it relates to pay, data integrity, payroll payment authorizations, and appropriate reporting to our partners, pensions schemes, and other country specific statutory bodies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business Management, or Finance.
  • Minimum 8+ years accounting/payroll
  • Experience in payroll processing, understanding of payroll and related social security and tax withholding compliance obligations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with accounting system software, Payroll software's, and expertise in excel and report writing software; Financial Edge Blackbaud and Paycom payroll processing system experience a plus.
  • Comfort with a hands-on approach to training, customer service, and support.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and technical skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to take initiative.
  • Professional, proactive attitude and approach; a sense of humor is a must.
  • Familiarity with a multi-office, multi-national organizational environment.
  • Ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff and clients.
  • Ability to work as a team.
  • Commitment to Reproductive Rights and women's Human Rights issues.

Compensation: This position is $88,000 per year.
