JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: LAW CLERK II (Information Services) FLSA EXEMPT GRADE: 16 SALARY: $68,850
LOCATION: 2650 S. CALIFORNIA AVE., CHICAGO, ILLINOIS JOB SUMMARY AND DUTIES The Law Clerk II works under the direction of the Director Research and Evaluation Unit, Office of the Chief Judge and Director of Research for Probation and Pretrial Operations . The position requires a strong commitment to access to justice, a highly professional demeanor, and sound judgment. The Law Clerk:
- Assists the department with legal evaluation of case processing across all case types to ensure compliance with Illinois Supreme Court Time Standards.
- Assists the department with internal audits of docket entries of judicial orders in the Clerk’s case management system.
- Review judicial orders to ensure orders are accurately entered into the court clerk’s electronic docket and make recommendations for corrective actions or improvements.
- Searches for and studies the law, court rules, court orders, legal records, and documents to obtain information and provide analysis applicable to proper procedures for case processing.
- In addition to reviewing electronic records, travel to any of the courthouses may be required to inspect physical files.
- Identifies bottlenecks and makes recommendations to promote efficiency of operation.
- Prepares written memoranda, summaries and recommendations based on research and analysis of docket entry issues and case processing issues that contribute to inaccuracies in docket entries or delay in disposition of cases.
- Interacts with Department heads, presiding judges, judges and court clerks in an effort to correct the electronic record when inaccuracies or omissions are identified and to improve case processing to achieve a more timely disposition of a case.
- Assists with other miscellaneous matters as required by the judges or supervisor.
- Maintains confidentiality while performing duties.
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor degree; license to practice law in Illinois.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in criminal law or civil law practice preferred or significant experience in support role in legal field prior to law school.
- Knowledge of methods of legal research and analysis of applicable law.
- Experience with computer applications for word processing, spreadsheet, database, and legal research/writing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work with others in a professional and collegial manner and collaborate with legal and non-legal personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods in front of a computer screen
- Intermittently twist to reach equipment or supplies surrounding desk
- Perform simple grasping and fine manipulation
- Strength to lift files weighing up to 20 pounds
- Use telephone and computer keyboard on a daily basis
