Job Description
This position will focus on providing nutrition services for the older adult population in Baltimore City. The Registered Dietitian will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local nutritional standards for senior citizens, while also delivering education, counseling, and program support to various stakeholders. This role offers the opportunity to work within a dedicated team focused on improving the health and wellness of the aging population in Baltimore.
Key Responsibilities:Menu Review and Nutritional Standards:- Review and analyze procurement solicitation specifications for food service providers in alignment with federal, state, and city standards and regulations.
- Review and approve menus for BCHD meal programs to ensure they comply with the Older Americans Act (OAA)and Maryland Department of Aging (MDoA)nutritional guidelines for older adults.
Nutrition Education and Counseling:- Provide nutrition education according to OAA and MDoA guidelines to older adults in senior centers, community sites, family caregiver programs, evidence-based program participants,
- Offer individualized nutrition counseling for program participants based on specific needs, adhering to OAA and MDoA guidelines.
- Review nutrition screenings of participants and follow up with appropriate guidance and resource referrals.
Nutritional Guidance and Technical Assistance:- Provide evidence-based nutritional information to partners and organizations offering nutritional meals or services to older adults.
- Conduct nutrient analysis of menus and food items upon request, ensuring compliance with OAA and MDoA standards.
- Consult and advise on developing plans to address food insecurity among older adults in Baltimore.
- Offer additional technical assistance on nutrition issues affecting the older adult population.
Mode of Service Delivery:- Services may be delivered in-person (individual or group settings), through online sessions, by mail, or via telephone, as necessary.
Qualifications and Experience:- Licensing:Must be a licensed dietitian or nutritionist, with either a CDR (Commission on Dietetic Registration)or CNS (Certification of Nutrition Specialists)number.
- Experience:
- At least two (2) yearsof experience reviewing menus and providing nutrition education and counseling.
- Experience working with older adults is highly preferred.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
