Position Summary:

The Slitter Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining slitting machines in the food manufacturing plant. This role ensures the precise cutting and processing of food packaging materials to meet production specifications and quality standards. The operator will work closely with other team members to maintain smooth production flow and uphold safety and quality protocols. Scheduled hours for this 3rd shift position are 10:30 PM - 7:00 AM. The pay rate for the Slitter Operator starts at $21.50/hr.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Machine Operation:
    • Operate slitting machines to cut large rolls of packaging material into smaller, specified widths.
    • Adjust machine settings such as blade tension, speed, and alignment according to production requirements.
    • Monitor the slitting process to ensure it adheres to quality and safety standards.
  • Quality Control:
    • Inspect slitted materials for consistency, quality, and defects.
    • Make adjustments to the machine as needed to correct any deviations from quality standards.
    • Document and report any issues or deviations to the Production Supervisor.
  • Maintenance:
    • Perform routine maintenance on slitting machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve minor machine malfunctions or issues.
    • Ensure all maintenance activities are logged and reported.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Complete and maintain accurate records of documented inspections, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
    • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Production Efficiency:
    • Set up and adjust slitting machines for optimal production efficiency.
    • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely production and minimize downtime.
    • Monitor and manage material usage to reduce waste and ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Reporting:
    • Complete daily production reports and logs.
    • Report any significant issues, downtime, or discrepancies to the Production Supervisor.
    • Maintain accurate records of machine performance and maintenance activities.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or production manager to support the team and ensure efficient operations.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Proficient in setting up and operating slitting machinery.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform quality inspections.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical training or certification in machine operation is a plus.
  • Previous experience operating slitting machines in a manufacturing environment.

Work Environment:

Production facility setting.

  • Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas.
  • Moving parts and machinery are present in the plant.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Occasional ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to physically perform functions of repetitive motion, grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, and climbing.
  • Noise levels will vary, higher noise levels exist while in the plant operations areas.
